Beltran could retire after 2016 season

Per a report by Anthony Mccarron of the New York Daily News, Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran discussed the team and his future in pinstripes and in baseball altogether.

Without actually acknowledging that this could be it, Beltran knows that the clock is ticking on a solid career, and if this is his last season, he feels as though the Yankees brass has made some offseason moves that could help the team get to the playoffs in 2016.

Beltran believes these Yankees are in a good position primarily because of the addition of closer Aroldis Chapman. “The starters can pitch 6 innings and if we are ahead, it’s a good possibility we are going to win the game” Beltran said.
He also discussed the advantage of having 3 “closers” who can each fill the role from time to time to give each other the proper rest.

The Yankees outfielder was also excited about the addition of new second baseman Starlin Castro. “When I look at Castro, I see a very talented ballplayer who had some good years in Chicago, but I feel has a lot more”.

Beltran called both Castro and Chapman to welcome them to the Yankee family and to offer his support and help in getting adjusted to life in New York City. Beltran, who hit 19 HR’s last season and drove in 67 RBI’s did have some moments during the 2015 campaign where he was possibly the Yankees best hitter.

He plans on arriving in Tampa on February 20th to get in a few extra days of workouts before the team’s first full-squad workout on February 25th. As far as his future, he is just going to do whatever he can to perform at a high level and help the Yankees this year, which is the final year of his contract. He stated that he would let his numbers this year possibly dictate where he goes from here.
