Derek and Hannah Jeter expecting first child

According to Hannah Jeter’s new column in The Players Tribune, the Jeters are extending their family. The supermodel used her husband’s publishing platform to break the news and quite possibly the internet.

“Big moments also have a funny way of making you look ahead. Now, pregnant with our first child, Derek and I are looking to the future.”

She casually dropped this bombshell of information in an article about her and Derek’s relationship, telling the oh, so classic how-we-met story. She also spoke about how excited she is to be able to tell her kids about how great of a player their father was, but expressed sadness that they never got to experience his career as it unfolded.

“I feel some sadness — and Derek must as well — thinking about how our children will never get to experience that time in his life. We can show them videos, and photos, and memorabilia — I already can’t wait to show them footage of that last night at the Stadium. But I know it won’t be quite the same. I’ll tell them myself: You had to be there.”

I’m sure fans are anxiously waiting for Derek Jeter to have a boy with a beautiful inside-out swing and insanely soft hands, but that is going to have to wait. Yes, the first spawn of Mr. November will be a girl. Hannah teased that Derek already had a name picked out, although we’ll just have to wait to see what it is.

“He already has a name in mind — he’s set on it. (We’ll see.) He’ll say when he calls me during the day: “So, how are you and so-and-so doing?”

She went on to say that she hopes their kids are honest like their father, but stubborn like herself. They have agreed that they want their children to have as normal of a life as possible, which won’t be an easy task.

“They’re going to be born into such an extraordinary situation. They’re going to have to be some strong little people. We don’t want them to be defined by their dad’s name — for them, we want him to just be “Dad.” That will be the piece of him they’ll have that the rest of the world doesn’t. It will be special, and it will be theirs.”

The Captain is set to have his No. 2 retired on May 14 before a game against the Houston Astros, which happens to be Mothers’ Day. Jeter’s always been pretty good with being in the right place at the right time.

Congratulations to the Jeters from all of us at Bronx Pinstripes!
