Joe Torre to throw ceremonial first pitch for Yankees’ season opener

Former Yankee manager Joe Torre will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium for the team’s season opener on April 6 against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to George A. King III and Dan Martin of the New York Post.

In his tenure in the Bronx, Torre had a very successful run, making the playoffs in every season he managed the club. In those 12 seasons, Torre posted a 1,173-657 record with a .605 winning percentage, as well as capturing six American League pennants to go with four World Series titles.

Although his relationship with the club didn’t end on the right foot, it seems that the organization and Torre have gotten past their differences. On August 24, 2014, the Yankees retired Torre’s No. 6 jersey, making him the 17th retired number in franchise history.

As the Yankees have a few scheduled ceremonies to honor some of the greatest players to ever wear the pinstripes, it’s fitting that Torre will throw out the first pitch to start the season. Currently, the 74-year-old from the Brooklyn, New York serves as an executive vice president for Major League Baseball.
