Ten of the best “Yogi-isms”

While it’s a sad day for fans everywhere as the world lost Yogi Berra, it is important to remember that Yogi had some of the best quotes—-ever. Forget the fact that he is arguably the best catcher of all time. Forget he has thirteen World Series rings combined as a player and as a coach. Let us now recall some of the best Yogi-isms that we are lucky enough to have heard.

(In no particular order)

1. “You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat six.”

What? Well, he’s talking about pizza. I like it. If emojis were a thing in his day, I like to imagine his Twitter account would be filled with pizza emojis. Yogi was that kind of guy.

2. “I never said most of the things I said.”

Deny till you die, right?

3. “Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical.”

Yogi proving that our grade school math teachers were wrong when they said we needed math to be successful. HA.

4. “Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.”

I can only think of my favorite episode of South Park where the kids hate playing and it’s all the parents care about.

5. “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

He never said he was a philosopher. When you have two tough choices…ah, what the hell, just pick something. Take a chance.

6. “A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.”

He wasn’t wrong, technically.

7. “Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good, too.”

Yogi reminds us what’s important here. For all the single folk, watch a baseball game.

8. “You can observe a lot by watching.”

Of course! Yes, yes, of course.

9. “You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.”

This actually has some meaning. I might get this tattooed across my back, sorry mom. Be careful every step along the way of life, or you might not reach your goals.

10. “It ain’t over till it’s over.”

Probably the most used Yogi Berra quote, and thinking about this on the morning of his death gives me the chills. His life may be over, but his legacy will live on. Here’s to you, Yogi.
