Yankees sign Andrew Bailey
In an effort to stack as many bullpen arms as possible, the Yankees have agreed to terms on a minor league deal with reliever Andrew Bailey. Should Bailey pitch for the big league club, his deal would be worth $2.5 million with a 2015 option plus a buyout. The deal was first reported by Buster Olney. Bailey, 29, is coming off a disappointing 2013 season in which he had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. His two years in Boston were marred by injuries which limited him to just 44 innings pitched and a bloated 4.91 ERA. Bailey is a local Jersey guy who attended college in Staten Island. He was once considered one of the best closers in the game as a member of the A's. He posted an ERA of 2.07 with 75 saves from 2009-'11 before signing a free agent contract with the Red Sox. Because of his injury, Bailey is a low risk/high reward signing. He might be available midseason, which would add depth to a bullpen that right now has some questions in it.
