The Yankees’ bullpen came undone on Sunday as the Orioles scored 7 runs in the 7th inning to come from behind from the Yanks and avoid a sweep. However, the Rays got swept by the A’s over the weekend, so the Yankees did not lose any ground in the Wild Card race Sunday and head into today’s Labor Day matinee against the White Sox still only 3.5 games back. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

A’s – 5-1 win vs Rays. A.J. Griffin goes 7 strong innings to down Rays and complete sweep.

Rays – 5-1 loss vs A’s. Rays go 1-7 with RISP in loss to A’s.

Orioles – 7-3 win vs Yankees. O’s avoid sweep with a 7-run 7th.

Yankees – 7-3 loss vs Orioles. Bullpen unravels for the Yankees in the 7th.

Indians – 4-0 win vs Tigers. Mike Aviles hits grand slam in the top of the 9th to beat Tigers and avoid sweep.

Royals – 5-0 win vs Blue Jays. James Shields strikes out 9 over 7 innings to shut down Jays in Toronto.
