Bryan Mitchell makes Opening Day roster

With roster cuts and the final 25-man roster coming to fruition before Spring Training ends, manager Joe Girardi confirmed Bryan Mitchell will make the Opening Day roster, likely as a reliever.

Mitchell, 24, has spent time with the major league squad throughout portions of the last two seasons, but has not established himself on the roster until this point in his career. This spring, the righty has been impressive tossing 14 and 2/3s innings while owning a record of 2-0 and an ERA of just 0.61 in three starts. He has allowed six hits and the only run he has given up came via the long ball. In his career during the regular season in the big leagues, he has pitched to a 0-3 record with an ERA of 5.31 in limited appearances. He has made 23 appearances with the Yankees, three of them as starts. With a successful spring this year, Mitchell may be a candidate for the long-reliever role for the Yankees this season out of the bullpen and perhaps spot starts if the team needs to rest a starter; a spot Adam Warren held last season.
