Aroldis Chapman intends to appeal if suspended

Aroldis Chapman's first official day as a New  York Yankee was filled with many questions, mostly regarding his recent involvement in a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend. While Chapman won't be charged criminally, he still faces punishment from MLB under the new domestic violence policy. He said today for the first time that he plans to appeal should commissioner Rob Manfred hand down a suspension, according to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News. MLB is still investigating the incident, which occurred last October at Chapman's home. Chapman said through a translator that he's "focused on baseball and preparing for the season." He also said that he's not sure when a decision will come from the league, and that the situation is out of his control. Manager Joe Girardi said Chapman is very happy to be in camp as a Yankee, and Chapman himself echoed those sentiments. "I'm excited to be here," he told reporters. Pitchers and catchers will have their first workout Friday at the Yankees' complex in Tampa.
