Beltran and Teixeira Injury Updates

The Yankees issued a statement this afternoon regarding the latest on Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira. Start off with Tex, he saw his personal physician today, and the ultrasound confirmed the inflammation in his surgically repaired wrist. The Yankees have him listed as day-to-day. There is a chance he might be out of the lineup tomorrow, but won't know till then. At this point the best thing might be to just put him on the 15-day which would be retroactive to Monday and let him get the adequate rest he probably needs. Maybe that's what the Yankees are thinking but they have made no indication that they will place him on the DL.
Carlos Beltran is slowly coming along. He took a total of 50 swings today inside the batting cage at Yankee Stadium. He took 25 swings from each side of the plate during a soft toss session with hitting coach Kevin Long. Beltran said he did not feel any discomfort or pain during or after the session, so that is good news. He is scheduled to repeat the soft toss workout again tomorrow. Let's just remember Beltran is still a long way from returning, the real test will come when he sees live pitching in a simulated game or something of that nature. The biggest concern Joe Girardi has are the swings and misses from live pitching, that is where Beltran's elbow will really be tested.
