Bryan Mitchell named tonight's starting pitcher

As the New York Yankees are currently in a stretch where they will play 16 games in a row, General Manager Brian Cashman told reporters that Bryan Mitchell will be tonight's starter as the team opens up a three game series with the Minnesota Twins.

CC Sabathia was scheduled to start on Monday night, but the team elected to push his start back, giving each starting pitcher an extra days rest. With a long stretch of games ahead, a little extra rest could be beneficial to a starting rotation that has been doing well of late. According to the Yankees' website, Sabathia is scheduled to pitch on Tuesday, while Nathan Eovaldi is the probable pitcher for the final game of the series. As the Cleveland Indians will come into town on Thursday, Ivan Nova will get the ball to start the series, with Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino likely to follow him in the rotation heading into the weekend. For Mitchell, this will only be his second start of 2015 for the big league club. In Triple-A this season, the 24-year-old posted a 5-5 record with a 3.12 ERA in 15 starts, but has seen his time with the big league club, making eight appearances out of the bullpen in a long reliever type of role. His last start came on August 1, as he allowed four runs on seven hits during his four innings of work against the Chicago White Sox. It is unclear how long the Yankees plan on letting him pitch tonight, but it's very likely that the right hander will be limited to a certain number of pitches during his outing.
