CC Sabathia undergoes minor knee surgery
In Brian Cashman's end of season press conference last week, he mentioned that CC Sabathia was scheduled to undergo minor routine surgery to "clean up" his problematic right knee. Today, the Yankees announced that Sabathia underwent the successful arthroscopic procedure and is expected to be ready for spring training next season. Sabathia, 36, is coming off his best season since 2012. He went 9-12 with a 3.91 ERA in 30 starts which spanned 179.2 innings, and credited much of his success to his health. 2016 was also Sabathia's first full season with a new knee brace - something he used towards the end of 2015 and felt comfortable with. Cashman said the surgery "isn't something that's of concern or considered serious", so it's just routine maintenance. Sabathia will enter the final year of his deal in 2017. Here's the full statement from the Yankees regarding Sabathia:
Earlier today, LHP CC Sabathia underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery for a routine cleanup. The surgery was performed by Yankees Head Team Physicial Dr. Christopher Ahmad at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Sabathia is expected to be ready for spring training.
