Chris Sale: "I don't go to New York to make friends"
It didn't take long for Chris Sale to understand the true meaning of the rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
During an appearance on WEEI on Wednesday afternoon as part of the station's Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, the first-year Red Sox was asked about the different feelings he faces now as he is part of the rivalry.
“You know. People in New York have never been really nice to me, but they hate me now. I heard some pretty interesting things out in the bullpen last time warming up.”
Sale arrived in Boston just as the rivalry began to heat up again. In three starts against the Bronx Bombers this season, the 28-year-old is 0-1 with an impressive 1.19 ERA. By his comments, it appears that the left-hander is getting a good taste of how competitive these two teams (and their fans) could be.
With the two teams separated by just 4.5 games, the final month and a half of the season should be very interesting to watch.
The two are scheduled to play seven more times this season, including a three-game set at Fenway Park this upcoming weekend. Sale is scheduled to start the middle game of the series on Saturday night.
Although Yankee fans may dislike Sale, the left-hander isn't worried about what people in the Bronx think about him.
