Did Clint Frazier ask Yankees if they'd ever un-retire jersey numbers?
Yankees radio broadcaster Suzyn Waldman was a guest on WFAN Wednesday morning and blurted out an interesting story about Clint Frazier. According to Waldman, who relayed the story with a chuckle, Frazier reportedly asked the Yankees if they would ever "un-retire numbers," with the wish of wearing Mickey Mantle's No. 7. While this story is juicy and makes for good headlines in the NYC tabloids, Brian Cashman has come out and said this "never happened." According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN, Cashman said via text that the story is "totally untrue" and that he checked with the Yankees' clubhouse manager and other team personnel to verify if such a request took place. "Clint Frazier needs some serious growing up," Waldman also told WFAN's Benigno & Roberts show. "He put on a lot of bulk, and I didn't see that tremendous quick bat speed. I did not see it. And this whole thing with the hair. He didn't come over here yesterday, he knew where he was traded last year. But he's young. He'll learn." This spring, Frazier hit .273 with one home run and eight RBI in 44 at-bats. If you want to connect with Tom Hanslin, email him at thanslin@gmail.com or follow him on Twitter @tomhanslin.
