Ellsbury concussed in Yankees’ victory
BRONX, N.Y. – The New York Yankees sent Luis Severino to the mound on Wednesday night in hopes of taking the third game of the four game series against the Kansas City Royals. Severino’s dominant performance led the Bronx Bombers to a 3-0 victory. Backed by a tremendous catch from Jacoby Ellsbury, Severino was able to throw eight shutout innings in a winning effort. Ellsbury sprinted back to deep center field on a ball hit by Alcides Escobar and crashed into the wall to make a phenomenal catch for the first out of the game. The valiant effort by Ellsbury led to him straining his neck and getting a concussion.

Severino thrived following the catch by Ellsbury and ended up receiving his first win in the month of May. The hard-throwing righty struck out seven Royals and allowed only four hits in his dominant performance. Rob Refsnyder will replace Ellsbury on the active roster.

Jason Hammel was on the mound for the Royals, and he looked much more sharp in comparison to his last start against the Yankees. Hammel allowed five earned runs and nine hits in his previous start, but tonight he struck out seven Yankee batters and allowed only three runs. Didi Gregorius was the main source of the Yankees’ offense as he scored two runs and hit a home run in the victory. Interim closer Dellin Betances shut down the Royals in the ninth inning by striking out the side. With the victory, the Yankees are now 27-17 on the season and an impressive 15-7 at home. On Thursday, they will look to make it three out of four against the Royals when Masahiro Tanka takes the mound against Miguel Almonte. Win- Luis Severino Loss- Jason Hammel Save- Dellin Betances
