Fireworks at The Stadium - The Bronx Pinstripes Show #22
The 2015 baseball season is exactly half over. The Yankees played their 81st game Sunday, and sit in first place by a game over Baltimore in the AL East. Scott and I discuss the 4th of July weekend, the World Cup, and of course, Yankees baseball.
The Yanks began the week by dropping 2 of 3 in Anaheim. But there is some good news, it was their last trip to the west coast this season (thank god). CC Sabathia started last Monday and pitched ok, but the Yankees bats couldn't get anything going off CJ Wilson. The bats stayed quiet the whole series; on Tuesday they only had 4 base runners in a 2-1 loss. Nova pitched well in his second start off the DL but it was not enough.
They finally got a win Wednesday. Eovaldi pitched well, and has really turned his season around. Scott is a bit higher on Nasty Nate than I am, but we both agree that he is improving.
Over the weekend we saw some late inning fireworks from this team. Friday night was probably their most exciting win of the season. Tex (who deserves to be on the All Star team) tied the game with a 3 run bomb in the 8th, and then McCann won it in the 12th with a walkoff 3 run HR. Scott and I discuss that game and also how Teixeira and McCann have turned into leaders on this team.
The Yanks walked-off again on the 4th of July (you're welcome, America). This time they did it with some small ball after a rare blown save by Betances. Sunday's game was a total let down, but they still took 2 of 3 from Tampa and sit alone atop the AL East at the halfway point in the season.
We discuss all the news and rumors that have come out this past week, including: Warren's move to the bullpen, CC's start pushed back, Beltran's trip to the DL, and injury updates to Miller and Ellsbury. Scott and I also review the major free agent acquisitions the Yanks have made over the past two seasons.
We end the show with a voicemail from Pete in Colorado who had a question about the very competitive (and mediocre) AL East. If you want to contribute to the podcast, submit mailbag questions, comments, rants, etc. here and call the voice mail line at 646-480-0342.
