Game 74: Giambino Back With A Bang
In a projected pitching duel of consistently inconsistent starters this season, Ubaldo Jimenez outdueled A.J. Burnett. Jimenez managed to keep the ball in the ballpark as well as around the strike zone. A.J. Burnett didn't do either of those things. Burnett walked 5 over 5.1 innings. He also surrendered 2 home runs and 1 was to a recognizable (albeit older) face.
In the 2nd inning, former Yankee Jason Giambi came to the plate to a nice ovation from the Yankees faithful. He proceeded to respond with a long solo home run right to the Bleacher Creatures who actually included him in the roll call(like former Yankee, now Royal Melky Cabrera).
Troy Tulowitzki also hit a solo home run tonight. Every game that he has played in New York(against the Mets & Yankees) he has hit a home run.
Alex Rodriguez continues to swing a hot bat as he drove in both of the 2 runs that the Yankees scored tonight.
A rare feat was achieved by A.J. Burnett as he struck out 4 Rockies in the 6th inning. He struck out Chris Iannetta & Carlos Gonzalez looking while Chris Nelson swung at the "hook" and it got past Martin. Burnett maintained his composure despite Nelson being called safe on a stolen base and struck out Todd Helton swinging for the 4th strikeout of the inning. This was the FIRST time any Yankee has struck out 4 in 1 inning.
