Gary Sanchez recalled from SWB, Ben Gamel optioned
The New York Yankees have recalled catcher Gary Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In a corresponding move, the Yankees optioned outfielder Ben Gamel to Scranton. Sanchez has had a very good year for the RailRiders this season. He is hitting .282 with 21 doubles, a triple, 10 home-runs, 50 RBI, and seven stolen bases. On May 13, he has made his only appearance for with the Yankees this season. In the game, he went 0-for-4 against the White Sox. The call-up was reported yesterday by Joel Sherman of the New York Post. In the post, he stated Sanchez is expected start as the Yankees' designated hitter tonight (Wednesday) with left-handed pitcher Steven Matz on the mound for the Mets. https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/760530115981873153 Gamel was called up by the Yankees just two days ago, filling the void left by Carlos Beltran following his trade to the Texas Rangers. He appeared as a pinch hitter for Adam Warren on Monday against the Mets. Gamel hit a sacrifice bunt to move over Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira in the top of the 10th inning, leading to a Yankees victory.
