Gleyber Torres smacks two doubles, scores two runs in first spring start
Although the Yankees lost their spring training game against Philadelphia on Saturday, there was still a lot to be excited about. First off, the lineup featured a number of young players that fans are looking forward to -- Greg Bird, Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Miguel Andujar, and top prospect Gleyber Torres.

It was Torres' first start of the spring and he could not have been more impressive. Batting eighth, the 20-year old shortstop smacked two doubles and scored two runs, the second of which was from second base on a wild pitch. Your browser does not support iframes. You obviously have to be fast, which Gleyber is, to score on a wild pitch from second base. You must also possess great baseball instincts, which every scout and coach raves about when talking about Torres. In his two plate appearances, Torres hit two doubles. One was a hot-shot grounder over third base and the second was a fly ball down the right field line. Gleyber's use of the whole field and knowledge of the strike zone is what makes him an elite hitter for his age.

Unlike past springs when the lineup was filled with seasoned veterans like Jeter, ARod, and Teixeira, each and every spring game this year is a glimpse into the Yankees future. Whether it's in the batter's box, on the mound, or in the field, there is always a player to keep your eye on -- today, it was Gleyber Torres. Also, check out this episode of The Bronx Pinstripes show we recorded last summer after the Yankees traded for Torres. We spoke with Scott Kornberg, radio voice of Gleyber's former team, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, who provided great insight on Gleyber Torres the player and the person.
