Injuries plague the Yankees out west
As if losing three straight games wasn't enough, the Yankees now have a few injuries to deal with. During Thursday night's extra inning loss to the Athletics, both Gary Sanchez and Aaron Hicks exited the game early. Likewise, Adam Warren reportedly hasn't been available the past two games due to a trap muscle injury. https://twitter.com/eboland11/status/875606924728782852 Sanchez left the game in the ninth inning after injuring his groin by stealing second base and awkwardly colliding with A's infielder Chad Pinder. The Yankees' catcher has been red hot lately, batting .360 with seven home runs and 21 RBIs in the month of June. When asked about the severity of the injury, Sanchez didn't seem too concerned.
"I felt the tightness there in the groin area. I don't think it's too much to worry about, but we have to wait and see," Sanchez stated.
Aaron Hicks seemed to tweak his left achilles on a swing in the eighth inning. He was replaced defensively by Rob Refsnyder the following half inning. Joe Girardi told the media that he doesn't see this as a major issue. Hicks has finally hit his stride this year with the Yankees, batting .306 on the year with 10 homers and 36 RBIs. Perhaps the most serious injury nagging the Yanks could cause Adam Warren to hit the DL. The right-hander expressed some discomfort in his right trapezius muscle a few days ago, and the pain hasn't improved. Warren has been forced out of action the past two games, and the bullpen has posted a 9.00 ERA during that span. The Alabama native has been a large part of the bullpen's success this year, posting a 2.23 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. Help is on the way, however, as it seems Aroldis Chapman could return to the Yankees this weekend.
