Instant Reaction: Despite a Scary 9th I'm Really Happy with that Game
Gut Reaction
Although Chapman messed around at the end I'm still taking a lot of positive vibes from this game. https://twitter.com/Jomboy_/status/882063964682674176
Tanaka Time
This is three starts in a row now where we got the Tanaka of old. If he can continue like this the rest of the season that bad stretch, in the beginning, will truly be remembered as a fluke. My fingers are crossed so hard for that to be the case. A dominant Tanaka can help this team tremendously. Especially with CC back off the DL tomorrow. We have yet to have both of those pitchers throwing well at the same time for us. Our rotation may get a beautiful facelift for the second half of summer. https://twitter.com/Jomboy_/status/882036368670511106
Betances Can Build Off This
Dellin didn't have his A+ stuff tonight. He had enough to get the job done though. If Donaldson doesn't duck on that 3-2 curveball and change the umps eye line Betances has three strikeouts and we're all clamoring that he's back to normal. Instead, the ump got tricked and we had to rely on some defense to get out of it. Gary got the ball down to second on that throw but it wasn't the throw that was great, it was the tag from our man Chase Headley. That saved the inning big time for Betances. He also got helped out in the first at-bat by Bautista swinging at ball four. It doesn't matter how he got it done though, what matters is he got it done and hopefully he can build on this and give us another 22 appearances in a row without an earned run.
Chaseball
Over the course of his career, Chase Headley's best month has always been July. That could be a fluke or that could be the real deal and our secret weapon to getting production at third base. Instead of sending some prospects away for new third basemen, we will just trade nothing and in return get July Chase. in 2014 he hit .316 in July (best month of the season) in 2015 he hit .370 in July (best month of the season) in 2016 he hit .286 in July (best month of the season)
Gary and Judge are Special
We're really really lucky to have both these kids coming up at the same time and doing so well. Not much else to say really. It's fun to watch those guys. https://twitter.com/Jomboy_/status/882016430140436480 https://twitter.com/YankeesPodcast/status/882000934318084096
Chapman, ugly
Aroldis was horrible. If we didn't have that insurance runs he would be getting a lot of shit right now. Luckily for him, we had those runs and he didn't completely blow it. It's now his turn to make a correction and give us a good outing. Follow me on Twitter to chat during the game tomorrow @Jomboy_
