Jacoby Ellsbury activated, Aaron Hicks to the DL
Prior to Monday night's game against the Chicago White Sox, center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was activated from the DL in a flurry of roster moves. Brain Cashman stated that Ellsbury was on his way to Chicago during an interview with ESPN. Unfortunately, Aaron Hicks will miss some action as he heads to the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain. He was hitting .290 on the year with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs. https://twitter.com/Yankees/status/879376150346309632 Ellsbury returns from a brief rehab assignment in Triple-A where he went 3-8 with two doubles and a stolen base. The veteran center fielder is back with the Yankees for the first time since May 24, when he collided with the outfield wall and suffered a concussion during a contest against the Royals. Ellsbury will look to build on his .281 batting average that he's compiled in 2017. He also has four home runs and eight stolen bases. Following the series finale against the Texas Rangers, the Yankees optioned LHP Tyler Webb and OF Mason Williams to Triple-A. Webb threw a total of 2.1 scoreless innings of relief during his short stint with the big league club; where he struck out two and failed to give up any hits. Mason Williams hit .250 through five games while stealing two bases. The Yankees have also recalled utility man Rob Refsnyder and RHP Ronald Herrera from Triple-A. Refsnyder, a common passenger of the "Scranton Shuttle", will experience his fourth stint in the majors this season. The 26-year-old is hitting a mere .172 in the majors this year, and has yet to record an RBI through 15 games. Herrera has been electric in the Double-A in 2017, boasting an 8-0 record with 1.12 ERA. He was called up to the Yankees for one game earlier this season. He gave up two runs, including a homer, in just two innings of work.
