Jacoby Ellsbury diagnosed with concussion, strained neck
Update 10:30 p.m. Jacoby Ellsbury exited Wednesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals following a vicious crash into the centerfield wall on the very first play of the game. The Yankees have now announced that Ellsbury suffered a concussion and a neck strain, and will be placed on the seven day concussion disabled list. Rob Refsnyder has been called up and will be in the Bronx in time for Thursday afternoon's game, according to Jack Curry who broke the news on the postgame show.

Alcides Escobar ripped the first pitch he saw to center and Ellsbury raised back and caught it with no room to break his stride. He hit into the wall and immediately went down, sending trainer Steve Donahue and Joe Girardi out to check on him. Ellsbury stayed in the game but was later removed in the second inning for Aaron Hicks, who will likely take over starting CF duties going forward. Ellsbury, 33, came into the game hitting .281/.349/.422 with four homers, 14 RBI and eight stolen bases in 38 games.
