Jeter to increase rehab

Derek Jeter will participate in his second simulated game today for the Yankees, but will incorporate running the bases for the first time since he was sidelined earlier this month with a calf-strain.

Manager Joe Girardi will not reveal what the plan moving forward is for the 39-year-old captain and did not confirm or deny if he'll be ready for this weekend's series against the Rays. Jeter has only played in five games this season, going 4-for-19 with a homer and two RBI.

Backup shortstop Eduardo Nunez gave the Yankees a scare on Sunday when he tweaked his hamstring while sliding back to first base. An MRI came back negative, so he'll rest for game one of today's doubleheader and will try play tonight. Jayson Nix will start in his place this afternoon.

Jeter will play another sim game today and run the bases, which Girardi says is a positive sign. Girardi won't reveal plan, though
