Ex-Yankees skipper Joe Girardi to join MLB Network as studio analyst

He won't be seen in a dugout this season, but Joe Girardi has a new job.

The former Yankees skipper, who managed the franchise to 10 consecutive winning seasons from 2008 to 2017, has agreed to join MLB Network as a studio analyst, according to a report from Sporting News. Girardi, 53, will reportedly make his television debut on Wednesday night's "MLB Tonight" program (6 p.m. ET) alongside host Greg Amsinger and analysts Bill Ripken and Mike Lowell.

“I’m really excited to join MLB Network and to have a chance to talk about the game that I love so much,” Girardi said in a statement.

Although the Yankees fell just one game shy of a World Series appearance last season, Girardi's contract with the club wasn't renewed this winter. Instead, New York replaced Girardi with Aaron Boone, a former major leaguer and ESPN analyst with no previous coaching experience. One of the reasons why the Yankees moved on from Girardi was due to his lack of communication with players.

As a skipper in the Bronx, Girardi finished with a record of 910-710 (.562), and led the team to a World Series championship in 2009.

This won't be Girardi's first stint in the broadcast chair. In 2004 and 2007, he worked with YES Network and FOX as a broadcast analyst.
