Mark Teixeira placed on DL, Chris Parmelee called up
The Yankees announced this morning that 1B Mark Teixeira was placed on the 15-day disabled list with what's being called an articular cartilage tear in his right knee. Teixeira left last night's game early after experiencing discomfort, and was replaced with Rob Refsnyder who made his first career appearance at first base. 1B Chris Parmelee was signed to a major league contract and will get called up.

The nightmare season for the 36-year-old Teixeira continues. He's struggled so far this season hitting .180/.271/.263 with three homers and 12 RBI. He's dealt with neck spasms for most of the season, and received a cortisone shot to remedy the pain back on May 26. Chris Parmelee, 28, was signed as a minor league free agent back in February. He appeared in 32 games last year for the Orioles, hitting .216/.255/.433 with four homers and nine RBI. He was originally drafted by the Twins in the first round (20th overall) in the 2006 MLB draft. He played parts of four seasons with Minnesota from 2011-2014, hitting .249 and swatting 24 homers and driving in 85. Additionally, the Yankees moved INF/OF Dustin Ackley to the 60-day disabled list.
