Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres finalists for AL Rookie of the Year
While the New York Yankees were shutout during the Gold Glove Awards, they still have a chance to bring home some hardware this offseason.
The BBWAA announced that INF's Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres are finalists for the Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award. Both of them will be up against DH/SP Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Andujar seems to be the mathematical favorite to win the ROY award, hitting .297/.328/.527 with 27 homers and 92 RBI in 149 games. But despite missing time with a UCL injury, Ohtani may be the favorite to win among writers eligible to vote. At the plate Ohtani hit .285/.361/.564 with 22 homers and 61 RBI in 104 games, while going 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA and a 1.161 WHIP in 10 starts on the mound.
With the stiff competition in the ROY category, Torres might come up short nabbing the award. However, he did open eyes around Major League Baseball hitting .271/.340/.480 with 24 homers and 77 RBI in 123 games for the Bronx Bombers.
Major League Baseball will announce the winner of the award on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. ET.
