Minors Wrap-Up: Adonis Garcia 4-for-5 in Trenton Debut

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Scranton/Wilkes-Barre got shut down by Indianapolis on Friday, falling 2-0 as they managed just three hits, coming off the bats of Kevin Russo, Ronnier Mustelier, and Francisco Cervelli. Melky Mesa, in his second game, still failed to record a hit and struck out twice in four trips to the plate. Michael O'Connor had turned in a solid performance on the mound, allowing just one run on two hits in 5.1 innings pitched while striking out five. Over the remainder of the game, the bullpen would allow just one unearned run between three pitchers.
AA: Trenton Thunder Adonis Garcia had a debut to remember as he powered the Thunder to their eighth straight win, defeating Bowie 10-6 on Friday night. Garcia, who moved up yesterday from High-A Tampa, went 4-for-5, including an RBI, two doubles, and two runs scored. Garcia and the Thunder were also helped along by leadoff hitter Jose Pirela, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, a double, and two runs scored, and cleanup hitter Zoilo Almonte, who got things started early with a two-run home run in the first inning. J.R. Murphy went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks, and scored each time he reached base. Vidal Nuno, arguably the staff's ace, was on the mound for Trenton, and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings while striking out nine hitters. He would earn the win, moving his record to 7-2 on the season.
High-A: Tampa Yankees Zachary Nuding turned in a quality start in Tampa last night, allowing just two runs on six hits in 6.2 innings while striking out five. Jeremy Bleich would close things out for the Yankees, tossing two perfect innings while striking out three hitters along the way. Offensively, Tampa got a big night from Kyle Roller and Kyle Higashioka, each of which had a two-run home run. Roller, Gary Sanchez, and Jose Toussen were the three Tampa hitters to record multiple hits last night. Kelvin DeLeon, making his Tanpa debut, went 1-for-4 with an RBI. The team's strength yesterday came with runners in scoring position, as they went 4-for-7 in that situation last night.
Low-A: Charleston RiverDogs Charleston topped Augusta 2-1 in a game that was completed in just 5 1/2 due to rain and lightning. Philip Wetherell got the victory for Charleston, moving to 5-5 on the season after throwing five innings of one-run ball last night. Wetherell allowed five hits, but struck out six batters in his outing. He was removed for John Brebbia, who faced just one batter before the game was called. Offensively, Rob Refsnyder looked like a star, going 1-for-2, while stealing a pair of bases and scoring both Charleston runs. He was brought home once by Dante Bichette, and once by Saxon Butler, who was playing his first game since being promoted from SS-A Staten Island.
