Minors Wrap-Up: Marshall Shuts Down New Britain for Win
Brett Marshall was lights out against New Britain on Sunday.
AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees John Maine turned in his best performance since joining the Yankees organization, tossing six innings of two-run ball on Sunday. Maine allowed just two hits while striking out four as he picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 6.28. Cory Wade would relieve Maine, providing three innings of shutout pitching as he picked up his second save since being demoted. Hitting with runners in scoring position helped Scranton/Wilkes-Barre significantly yesterday, as they went 3-for-7 and scored twice on hits. Gustavo Molina, behind the plate while Francisco Cervelli got a day off, hit a three-run home run as the major offensive force for the Yankees.
AA: Trenton Thunder Brett Marshall stole the show for the Thunder on Sunday, allowing just two hits through 5.2 shutout innings. One of Trenton's best pitchers this year, Marshall recorded six strikeouts on the day as he picked up his league-leading 10th win of the season. Only Jon Meloan allowed a run on the day, though he was still able to nail down his third save of the season. Trenton's offense was led by Addison Maruszak and Neil Medchill, who homered in back-to-back innings to give the Thunder a 3-1 victory. Trenton's only other run scored when Luke Murton singled in the 4th inning, bringing home David Adams.
High-A: Tampa Yankees Tampa's game from Sunday was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.
Class A: Charleston Riverdogs The Riverdogs got the bats going in a big way on Sunday, putting together sixteen hits as they defeated Greenville by a score of 11-5. Ben Gamel led the team in hits, going 4-for-5 and scoring three times. However, it was Tyson Blaser and Francisco Arcia who really powered the offense. Each had three RBIs, with Arcia blasting his fourth home run of the season. Dante Bichette and Casey Stevenson also got in on the action, with Bichette recording a multi-hit game, and Stevenson hitting an RBI triple. For Charleston, it was a good thing the bats were working, because Bryan Mitchell struggled throughout today. Mitchell allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks in just four innings of work for the Riverdogs, and didn't last long enough to get the victory. That went to Philip Wetherell, who picked up his fourth win of the year in relief of Mitchell.
