Minors Wrap-Up: Robertson Gets Start in Rehab Appearance
AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
David Robertson got the start and pitches a perfect inning as the Yankees toppled Louisville 9-7. Making his second rehab appearance, Robertson needed just fourteen pitches to retire the three hitters he would face. Former big-leaguer Joey Gathright was Robertson’s lone strikeout victim. After Robertson left, John Maine and Nelson Figueroa split three innings a piece, with Maine getting the victory. Chase Whitley had come on for the 8th inning and struggled a bit, allowing three runs on three hits in his lone inning of work.
Offensively, it was the Russell Branyan show for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Branyan went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored, and four RBI as he continues to massacre AAA pitching this season. Ronnier Mustelier (2-5, RBI, 2 R), Kevin Russo (2-5, 2B, 3 R) and Colin Curtis (2-4, 2B, BB) were all key cogs in the lineup today with multi-hit games. As a team, the Yankees managed to go 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
AA: Trenton Thunder
Tonight’s game was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow.
High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa pulled one out in ten innings tonight, defeating the Clearwater Threshers 4-3. J.R. Murphy was the big offensive name today, going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. He also scored three runs. Also providing a big boost was Rob Segedin, who had gone 2-for-4 on the evening, including the go-ahead single in the 10th inning. On the mound tonight for the Yankees was Sean Black, who gave them five innings of shutout baseball. Black allowed just two hits while recording five strikeouts, but did not factor into the decision. Mark Montgomery nailed down his ninth save of the season tonight in the 10th inning.
Class A: Charleston RiverDogs
Charleston suffered yet another rainout. The current plan is to play two (which two?) tomorrow.
