New York brewery rooting for Mets over Yankees
Well, after almost three decades of being the little brother, it appears the Mets are taking over. That is, at least, according to New York based brewery Newburgh Brewing Company.
In a picture posted to their Instagram and Facebook accounts this week, you can see "Go Mets!" stamped on the bottom of their cans along with the brewing date.

Newburgh is about 60 miles north of Yankee Stadium and 70 from Citi Field. So geography clearly has nothing to do with their allegiance with the Amazin's, so what gives? A young, talented pitching staff and a recent trip to the World Series might have something to do with it. The Yanks, on the other hand, have played one playoff game in the last three years.
"We did this totally on a whim as we were setting up to begin canning with the mobile canning company that we work with. They asked us if we wanted to print a message on the bottom of the cans, along with the date. We are also big Ranger fans, so our first thought was. 'Go Rangers!' But because these cans will likely be around past when the Rangers win the Stanley Cup, our next thought was 'Go Mets!' primarily because myself and one of the other co-owners, Charlie Benedetti, are huge Mets fans." Newburgh CEO Paul Halayko
Pretty bold move for a New York brewing company to make, the Yanks are still a big deal in the Big Apple after all. We'll just have to wait and see what kind of effect this will have on their clientele. So the next time you're at Billy's before a game, maybe reach for a different brew. I've never had one of their beers, but I imagine it's bitter. Go Yankees!
