Pitching falters as Yankees drop series in Texas
TEXAS -- It's been a while but the Yankees lost their first series in more than a month, after dropping the finale of their three-game set versus the Texas Rangers, 12-10, at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
The New York offense did its part in this one, scoring 10 runs on 14 hits, but the Yankee pitching staff could not hold the 10-5 lead generated by the bats.
Against Ranger starter Doug Fister, the team immediately made damage with a big first inning. The big blow was a two-run dinger from the struggling Didi Gregorius to open the scoring. It was a sight many Yankee fans have surely missed.

Though Neil Walker hit a solo shot in the third, the Rangers began teeing off against CC Sabathia in the fourth.
Nomar Mazara hit a two-run shot early in the frame, then Texas took the lead, 5-4, on a three-run homer from Ronald Guzman. Just like the other two games in the series, this was an offensive showcase.
While they lost the lead, the Yankees were definitely not rattled. In the very next frame, the team came back and scored six runs to take back the lead.
In the inning, Gleyber Torres homered again, this time a three-run shot, as the rookie continued his torrid run at the plate.

Aaron Judge added his 13th home run of the season later in the frame.
Though it was looking good for New York, its pitching staff could not hold down the Texas lineup. To start, Sabathia did not have a good start tonight, giving up seven earned runs in just four and a third innings. This was the second straight ineffective start for the left-hander.
After adding two runs in the fifth, Texas completed its comeback in the sixth.
Chasen Shreve started the inning but got just a single out, while giving up two earned runs. David Robertson tried to get out of the jam but came just an out short of completing his usual houdini act.
Subsequently after striking out Mazara, Jurickson Profar gave the Rangers the lead back, smoking a Robertson cutter to right-center field to clear the bases. All three runs scored easily on the play.
New York would try to make a comeback but it was for not. Keone Kela closed them out in the ninth, striking out the side, for his tenth save of the season.
It was a disappointing end to the road trip for the Bombers, with their vaunted bullpen performing very poorly.
Notably, Aaron Boone again sent Dellin Betances out for a second inning. Just like the other times, the Rangers were able to score off of the right-hander in his second inning of work.
The Yankees have tomorrow off and will have staff ace Luis Severino facing off with Andrew Heaney and the Angels on Friday, in New York.
Current Yankees Record: 31-15
