Plague over first base continues with Parmelee injury
Update - 3:20 PM The Yankees have announced that Chris Parmelee will indeed land on the 15-day DL with a right hamstring strain. Taking his place on the roster is RHP Chad Green. https://twitter.com/YankeesPR/status/741342697487749121 Green made one appearance in the Bigs this season, going 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA, five K's and a walk across four innings. In 11 starts for the RailRiders, the 25 year old righty is 4-5 with a 1.61 ERA. Original post - 12:13 PM After two great starts this week with the New York Yankees, first baseman Chris Parmelee suffered a right hamstring injury in Thursday's win over the Angels. With two outs in the seventh inning, Parmelee had to extend to grab a throw from Didi Gregorius, fell backwards and grabbed the back of his right leg. Unable to apply any pressure on the leg, Parmelee was helped off the field by manager Joe Girardi. Parmelee has played great for the Yankees thus far. In six games in the Bronx, he has hit .500 with two home-runs, four RBI and has played well on defense. He is the fourth first baseman that the Yankees have lost to injury this season, and following the game, Girardi stated he would be "completely shocked" if Parmelee didn't have a stint on the DL himself. Greg Bird and Dustin Ackley were both lost for the season following a torn right shoulder labrum which required surgery. Mark Teixeira has missed time due to neck spasms and most recently a knee injury. He is hopeful for a return in about three weeks despite the potential of surgery which would cause him to miss the rest of the season. The Yankees once again face the question of 2016: "Who will play first?" It's likely that Rob Refsnyder will see the bulk of the playing time at first, where he has four starts this season. In 11 games, he is hitting .208 with no home-runs and five RBI. Another potential option for the Yankees is bringing up 35-year-old former bomber, Nick Swisher. Swisher is currently hitting .238 with four home-runs and 17 RBI for the RailRiders. He knows what the Bronx is all about and would be a great addition to the clubhouse. It's also possible the Yankees get the catchers into the mix, whether it's back-up catcher Austin Romine or taking a shot calling up Gary Sanchez, who started taking grounders at first on Tuesday. He is currently sporting a brace on a broken thumb he suffered two weeks ago.
