Preview: Yankees at Athletics (6/15/14)

Vidal Nuno (1-2, 4.97 ERA) and Jesse Chavez (5-4, 3.04 ERA) close out the series in the rubber match. In Nuno's last start against the Mariners, he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up just one run on four hits, thanks mostly to his defense. He faced the A's at the stadium on June 4th allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings taking a no decision. In six career road starts he is 2-0 with a 1.81 ERA.
Chavez gave up two runs on eight hits in six innings against the Angels, but still lost. He is 0-3 in his last three starts because his offense scored seven runs total in those three losses. His last win was May 18th against the Indians when his offense gave him 13 runs.
As is the norm this season, the A's will honor Derek Jeter prior to the game, but they won't be acknowledging one of his most iconic plays. Still a little bitter 13 years later, don't expect The Flip Play to be included in any video tributes during the ceremony. "Oh, is that right?" Jeter said when told of the A's decision. "I've seen it. I'm sure they've all seen it."
Notes on the old and feeble
Brian Roberts was out of the lineup Saturday after fouling a ball off his right knee Friday. Joe Girardi said he hopes to give Roberts Sunday off as well to be safe.
Glass Bones Teixeira was scratched from the lineup just 25 minutes before first pitch with left rib cage tightness. He said it felt like muscle spasms so Girardi is hoping the night off helped. They will reassess today and go from there.
First pitch at 4:05 PM on Yes
