Preview - Yankees at Tigers (4/22/15)
Adam Warren (0-1, 4.82 ERA) is still looking for his first win of the season; if he wants it he will have to go through David Price (1-1, 0.40 ERA) and his minuscule ERA. Warren was disappointed with his last start against the Rays. He lasted just four innings giving up four runs on six hits, two of them home runs. ARod's dual homers bailed him out and the team got the win. He said that he must be more consistent with his breaking balls against the Tigers.
Warren has never started against the Tigers, but he is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in four career relief appearances against them. He's only pitched once at Comerica Park, allowing one run in one inning. In his five career starts he is 1-1 with a 5.95 ERA.
In his last start against the White Sox, Price gave up four hits and just one earned run, a homer, over eight innings with nine strikeouts. It was the first run he allowed of the season (three starts.) Despite the hot start, he only has one win to show for it. "That's the way it is when you are the Opening Day guy. You match up against everybody else's number one," Price said. "That's the way it goes. The most important thing is that we are 3-0 in the games I started. That's what matters."
Price's last start against the Yanks in Detroit didn't go too well. In the third inning he gave up nine straight hits and eight runs. He only lasted two plus innings, giving up 12 hits and a walk.
