Masahiro Tanaka (7-1, 2.29 ERA) takes the mound against Kevin Correia (2-6, 6.35 ERA) in an afternoon game at the stadium. Tanaka bounced back from his first loss in two years with a great outing against the White Sox. He allowed just one run over 6 2/3 innings for his seventh win of the year and threw a season high 118 pitches. "I don't look at myself as an ace at all," Tanaka said through an interpreter." All I'm really trying to do is go up there on the mound each start, try to give it my best out there, just try to beat the opponent. It's way too soon." He is facing the Twins for the first time.
Correia missed out on a quality start against the Rangers on Monday gaving up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts taking the loss. It was just the third time in 10 starts this season he's gone at least seven innings. He has a 7.04 ERA in six starts since April 25th, and he's given up four homers, two of which have come at spacious Target Field. But the veteran is feeling alright all things considered. "I wouldn't call it a work in progress," Correia said. "But we're making some adjustments, and I feel like they're taking hold. The ball feels like it's coming out pretty good."
