Report: Cashman 'open to anything'
The "hot stove" will officially start to warm on Saturday, when free agency begins in Major League Baseball. GM Brian Cashman is ready and open to anything, according to a report from FOX Sports.
According to the report by Ken Rosenthal, one rival executive said it looks like the Yankees are "shopping everyone." Another executive echoed the same thing, but added "everyone except Luis Severino."
The Yankees have only three players coming off the books this offseason - Chris Capuano, Stephen Drew and Chris Young; none were extended qualifying offers. Unlikely to spend big on the free agent market, Cashman is expected to improve the team through creative trades.
"If we can find matches to make us better as we go forward, we're all ears," Cashman told Rosenthal. Cashman reiterated that it's unlikely the team parts ways with stud prospects Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Severino.
Anything is possible, however, and Cashman should get going relatively soon. Last year, he was able to pull off five trades by the New Year.
