Report: Derek Jeter nears deal to buy the Miami Marlins
As each day passes, it seems more likely Derek Jeter could be the new owner of the Miami Marlins. According to the New York Post, Jeter's group put in a $1.2 billion bid on the Marlins and appeared close to a deal on Monday night. Jeter's group is currently the leading contender to buy the franchise from current owner Jeffrey Loria. Despite the talks, no sales agreement has been presented to Major League Baseball for approval. One of the investors in Jeter's camp is NBA great Michael Jordan, although Jordan's contribution to the bid monetary-wise seems to be very small. The Marlins were expected to name a winner of the bid prior to Tuesday's All-Star game. However, the process is now expected to wrap up sometime next week.
