Rob Refsnyder finalist for Marvin Miller Award

Rob Refsnyder is being recognized for his charity work throughout the Tampa community.

The 25-year-old was one of six major leaguers to be selected as division winners for the 2016 Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award. The other division winners include Lance McCullers, Curtis Granderson, Anthony Rizzo, David Robertson and Justin Turner. All six players will appear on the 2016 Players Choice ballots for league-wide voting to determine which player wins the award. Each year, the Marvin Miller Award is annually given out to the player whose on-field performance and contribution to his community inspire others to higher levels of achievement. All 30 teams have a representative who is nominated by their teammate. The nomination from each team receives a $2,500 grant from the Players Trust, which is donated to the charity of the player's choice. Refnsyder was looking to get involved in charity work that was near the Yankees Spring Training home in Tampa, Florida. After researching local charities in the area, Refsnyder and his wife decided to get involved with A Kid's Place. The organization works to provide care for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, abandonment or neglect. Teaming up with Athletes Brand, the 25-year-old helped  create T-shirts to raise money for the foundation. The T-shirts feature the word "overachieve" on them, a term that Refsnyder feels helped him as he worked to reach his goal of playing in the big leagues with the Yankees. Not only does Refsnyder make donations to the organization, but he likes to be involved as well.
