The New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders secure the 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Championship thanks to Chris Parmelee's early three-run home run.
El Paso Chihuahuas 1 – Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3
After winning the Governor's Cup title, the RailRiders head to Memphis to compete for the 2015 Gildan Triple-A National Championship against the San Diego Padres Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas.
The RailRiders struck early against Walker Lockett and the Chihuahuas. Mark Payton and Clint Frazier led off with singles and Chris Parmelee let them cruise around the bases on his three-run home run to right.
Starting for the RailRiders, Jordan Montgomery was strong. Montgomery set the Chihuahuas down in order through the first two innings. In the third inning, Jose Rondon led off with a double and Nick Noonan hit a single that put runners on the corners. Montgomery remained composed as he struck out Auston Bousfield and Manuel Margot. He got Carlos Asuaje to ground out and the three-run lead remained intact. Montgomery pitched into the sixth inning but three singles, including a run-scoring single by Austin Hedges, ended Montgomery's night on the mound. Johnny Barbato got the three outs in the sixth inning.
In five innings, Jordan Montgomery allowed one run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Phil Coke relieved Barbato and pitched two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts. Giovanny Gallegos came on for the save and set the Chihuahuas down in order with the final out from Nick Torres on a fly out to right fielder Clint Frazier.
With the three-run home run in the first inning, Chris Parmelee is named the 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Most Valuable Player
