September 16, 1996: Yankees throttle Blue Jays 10-0
Jimmy Key turned in eight innings of two-hit ball tonight, as the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays by a score of 10-0. New York took three of four from the Jays, and now hold a three-game lead over the Orioles in the AL East.
Key needed 104 pitches to get through eight innings. He struck out four and walked none, earning his 12th win of the season. The offense erupted for 10 runs, and scored in every inning from the third through the eighth. Leading the charge was Tim Raines, who hit a pair of two-run home runs and drove in six runs overall. Andy Fox, Ruben Rivera, Darryl Strawberry and Derek Jeter each added an RBI. Toronto starter Paul Quantrill was torched for seven runs over five innings.
The Yankees now begin a huge series with the second place Orioles starting tomorrow - weather permitting. Andy Pettitte starts against Scott Ericskon.
