Series Recap: Yankees can't hit par against Birdies
There was no shortage of weird events happening between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees. Long games, fluke injuries and strange plays.
GAME 1
In their 5-2 defeat, the Yankees bats were cold and their pitching was hard pressed to keep up with the lack of run support. The New York lineup was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
JUDGE BLASTS OFF
As both teams went through the motions, Aaron Judge broke the ice, slugging a solo shot off Andrew Cashner in the sixth, staking the Bronx Bombers to a 1-0 lead.
SEVENTH FAR FROM HEAVEN
Masahiro Tanaka was cruising along through six and fanned seven O's batters on the evening but Baltimore woke up in the seventh. The home run bug bit "Masa" again, as Adam Jones stroked a two-run tater. Chad Green didn't fare much better, surrendering two runs on three hits during his outing in the seventh.
GAME 2
In the second game, the Yankees played 14 innings, well, those lucky enough to make it that far. The injury bug crept up and bit the boys in Pinstripes, as they dropped a 7-3 contest to the Orioles.
INJURIES PILE UP
After surrendering three solo home runs in four frames, CC Sabathia was lifted with a hip issue. Brandon Dury exited the game with migraines and blurry vision. Tyler Wade left with an illness. Gary Sanchez also had to leave the game late with cramps.
Isn't it incredible how some people will lose their minds if the World Series is played one minute in November but it's perfectly fine to have these guys risk injuries playing in 30-40 degree weather in March and April?
DIDI DOES IT AGAIN
With the Yankees trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Didi Gregorius smoked a clutch home run to right, off Miguel Castro. Gregorius won the game in the eleventh but was cut down at home after a wild pitch took a favorable Baltimore hop off the backstop.
COULDNT HOLD IT
The Yankees bullpen performed yeoman's work with nine scoreless frames. Yet, after Judge bailed him out by robbing Caleb Joseph of a home run in the thirteenth, Jonathan Holder couldn't keep Pedro Alvarez in the yard, yielding a grand slam in the fourteenth inning.

GAME 3
Following a tough loss, the Yankees salvaged the third game with about as big of a bounce back as one could ask for, winning 8-3.
SONNY IS MONEY
Sonny Gray was quite economical in the early going and gave the Yankees six quality frames in the afternoon. Gray took some stress off the bullpen, fanning four along the way.
OFFENSE STEPS UP
A thin lineup was up to the task of attacking Chris Tillman. Brett Gardner's two-run single helped the Yankees to a 2-0 advantage in the second inning. Judge and Tyler Austin also knocked in a pair of runs apiece. Ronald Torreyes collected a three-hit afternoon.
UNDEFEATED
Saturday's game was also notable, being a BP crew outing. Even with a small sample size, the Yankees remain undefeated when the Bronx Pinstripes crew makes the Stadium shake!

GAME 4
Despite banging out 16 hits and a five-run first frame, the Yankees suffered a frustrating 8-7 loss in 12 innings.
WRONGING A WRIGHT
The Yankees jumped all over Mike Wright Jr. in the first frame, scoring five runs in what looked to be a laugher. A two-run single by Miguel Andujar, an RBI-single by Austin Romine and an RBI-double by Torreyes, enabled the Yankees to chase Wright Jr.
GUMDROPS
Jordan Montgomery couldn't make it out of the fifth, getting wracked for 10 hits and four runs, including a homer by Danny Valencia in that fifth.
UH OH DOMINGO
Domingo German was on until he was off. German fanned five out of the bullpen but gave up the lead on a two-run shot by Anthony Santander in the seventh, making it 7-6 O's.
ROMINE ON TIME
Already having RBI-singles in the first and fifth, Romine delivered again with a game-tying single to right.
RULING GENTRY
After robbing Gardner on what would've been a game-winning hit to left, Craig Gentry won hit battle with Adam Warren, delivering an RBI-single to left in the twelfth.
YOU CAN'T PREDICT BASEBALL
With the bases loaded and zero outs, Judge grounded into a 1-2-5 double play and Giancarlo Stanton whiffed for the fifth time in the contest.
ON DECK
At 5-5, the Yankees will head to Fenway Park and take on the Boston Red Sox for a three-game series starting Tuesday evening.
Pitching probables, Luis Severino vs. Chris Sale, Masahiro Tanaka vs. David Price, TBD vs. Rick Porcello.
