Spring Training Game 29: Tanaka surrenders three in loss
Masahiro Tanaka allows three runs on seven hits in likely last start of this spring.
New York Yankees 1 -- Minnesota Twins 3
Masahiro Tanaka got his final start of the spring as the regular season approaches.
After two scoreless innings, some success with two outs would put the Yankees in an early deficit. In the third inning, Eduardo Escobar would hit a two-out double. Chris Herrmann followed with a single of his own, scoring the first run of the game.
A pair of singles by Chris Young and Ramon Flores would get the run back in the bottom of the third inning but Tanaka would not keep the game tied. With two on and one out, Eric Fryer would hit a single to score a run, returning the lead to the Twins.
In the fifth inning, Eduardo Escobar would get Tanaka one more time. The solo home run extended the lead to two. Tanaka would get one more out before giving up a single and ending his day on the mound.
In 4 1/3 innings, Masahiro Tanaka allowed three runs on seven scattered hits, walking none and striking out just one.
The Yankees would threaten in the eighth and ninth inning but could not rally to overcome the two-run deficit in todayâs loss.
