Whitley placed on DL after injury
Update CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Whitley was initially diagnosed with a torn UCL. Tommy John Surgery remains an option, but right now, the Yankees are placing Whitley on the 15 day DL before they make a decision.

Yankees starter Chase Whitley was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday after suffering an elbow injury in his start against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday. The team announced today that Whitley suffered a right elbow strain. Whitley was taken out of the game in the second inning after experiencing pain in that elbow.
The Yankees re-announced Whitley's injury as a right elbow sprain, not a strain.

Whitley made four starts for the Yankees going 1-2 with a 4.19 earned run average. In a related move the Yankees called-up right hander Jose Ramirez from Triple-A. Ramirez made five saves with a 2.95 ERA for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The most logical choice to take over Whitley's spot in the rotation is Chris Capuano who is rehabbing from an injury suffered in spring training.
