The Yankees have made another incremental move this afternoon, they have acquired left-handed veteran Chris Capuano from the Colorado Rockies for cash considerations. Capuano started the season with the Boston Red Sox as the primary long man for them. In 28 appearances he went 1-1 with a 4.55 ERA over 31.2 innings. He was released by Boston on July 1st and was picked up by Rockies a few days later. He was used a starter for Rockies farm system, going 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA in four starts, spread out over Double-A and Triple-A.
The Yankees have been picking up lefties looking for that one guy that can come up and hopefully be starter in replace of CC Sabathia. With Chase Whitley and Shane Greene in uncharted territory, any veteran presence they can add to the rotation is a plus. The thought is maybe they catch some lightning in a bottle like they have with Brandon McCarthy, who pitched another gem today. Capuano has spent time with Mets, Dodgers and Brewers over his career, and has career record of 74-84.
