Asche was acquired by the Royals on a minor league deal over the offseason. Before the trade to New York, he was expected to provide infield depth for the Royals. Asche previously played in the Major Leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies, hitting .234/.293/.376 in 1,379 plate appearances. While he has struggled in the Majors, he did well in Triple-A last season, hitting .269/.412/.500.
