Yankees acquire LHP Sanmartin from Rangers
The roster shuffling by Brian Cashman continues as the Yankees work to finalize the 40 man roster before tonight's 8:00 deadline. Currently sitting at 36 players, the 40-man roster offers protection for a player being selected in the Rule 5 Draft by another club.
Over the weekend, the Yankees dealt Nick Rumbelow to the Mariners in exchange for 2 minor leaguer pitchers, and today they acquired minor league LHP Reiver Sanmartin in exchange for RHP Ronald Herrera -- clearing another spot on the 40.

While we're not talking about another bold, sexy trade by Cashman, it is another shrewd deal that allows the Yankees to acquire additional minor league pitching depth rather than losing a guy for nothing in the Rule 5 draft.
Sanmartin, 21, pitched for two Single-A teams in 2017 while putting up good numbers: 2.62 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 119 strikeouts in 137.2 IP.
Expect more moves like this leading up to tonight's 8:00 deadline.
