Yankees And Russell Martin Talking Extension

The New York Yankees have proposed ripping up Russell Martin's current one-year contract and giving him a three-year deal, reports Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com. If the Yankees and Martin were to come to an agreement, it would make Martin a Yankee through 2014. Negotiations are in the early stages, however.
The Yankees and Martin avoided salary arbitration back in January when both sides agreed to a one-year deal worth $7.5M with an additional $100K in performance bonuses.
In his first year in pinstripes, Martin hit .237 with 18 homers and 65 RBIs.
Martin, 29, is eligible to become a free agent after this season.
