Yankees announce September 1st call ups
It's that time of year again! The Yankees have announced the players called up to the big leagues; most are not surprises. The list includes:
Rob Refsnyder- 2B
Jose Pirela- INF
Andrew Bailey- RHP
Dustin Ackley- 2B/OF
Caleb Cotham- RHP
Rico Noel- OF
James Pazos- RHP
Notice stud outfielder Aaron Judge has been left out thus far. We've seen Refsnyder for a bit in the big leagues, and know about his potential. Andrew Bailey was an All-Star at one point in his career, and has been dominant while rehabbing his shoulder, impressing Yankees brass with a 2.38 ERA and a 10.9 K/9 in 34 innings of work in four different levels of the organization going into Thursday (8-27).
Rico Noel is a speedster. At 5'8, he is most likely called up due to his threat on the base paths. He might not get a lot of plate appearances, but could be used as a pinch runner that can out run any attempt from a catcher. He's 46 for 56 on stolen base attempts on different levels of the minors this season. Let's not talk about his batting average.
These roster additions boast a lot of talent and potential, which could give New York the boost they need to overtake the hot Blue Jays and claim the division title. Manager Joe Girardi will have more names to add to his white binder, meaning more toys to play with, with possibly more wins on the horizon.
