Yankees clear 40-man spot
The Yankees have made their first move of the offseason. Now do not so worked up because it isn't a big trade or free agent signing. With the postseason still going on, that type of news won't be for a little while. However, today, the Bombers announced that speedster Rico Noel was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This move creates an open spot on the 40-man roster.

The Yankees signed Noel on June 30, 2015. He was a huge threat on the base paths that he earned himself a spot on the Wild Card game roster. Noel hit .500 in only two plate appearances. What separates him is his speed. The 26-year-old stole five bases in seven attempts. However, Noel is not much of a hitter as he hit only .057 in the minors for the Yankees but is a major threat off the bench as a pinch-runner. If I had to guess, I would think the doesn't end up staying with the Yankees next season but they might keep him in the minors for a September call-up.
