Yankees finalize 40-man roster ahead of Rule 5 draft
Teams had until 8:00 p.m ET Monday to add players to their 40-man roster in order to protect them from next month's Rule 5 draft.
Players signed at age 18 must be added to the 40-man within five seasons or they are eligible to be drafted by other organizations. Players signed at age 19 and above have to be protected within four seasons. Clubs pay $100,000 to select a player in the Rule 5 Draft which is taking place this year on December 14 at the Winter Meetings in Orlando. If a selected player isn't on the new team's 25-man roster for the full season, he will be offered back to his former team for $50,000.
Brian Cashman was wheeling and dealing leading up to the deadline, and the Yankees have announced who has been protected.

It's no surprise that the team added number one overall prospect Gleyber Torres to the roster. Joining him are RHPs Domingo Acevedo (No. 6), Albert Abreu (No. 7), Jonathan Loaisiga, INF Thairo Estrada (No. 17), and OF Billy McKinney (No. 23).
